Phillip
Thomas Duck is the author of the BET Books "Playing With Destiny,"
and various short stories. Duck has been acknowledged as one
of the country's upcoming young authors, and has spoken on
various occasions nationally about his work.
Duck,
a graduate of Monmouth University, has written a book so timely
in the lives of black males that besides being well written,
it speaks to the culture. His success as a writer is his ability
to capture the zeitgeist, speak the language, while paying
homage to the best in black tradition in literature. The fusion
of the past and present weaves an intriguing story as intellectual
as it is raw at times.
Duck
is currently working on his second book, "Grown & Sexy,"
about an ex-convict turned minister. He is also touring the
college curcuit, discussing his work at book signings across
the nation.
Duck
has also started reaching out to young people, through his
book club project for high school students. Connecting with
students through his own personal journey, Duck talks about
his early ambitions as an aspiring rapper and how he made
the switch from writing rhymes to writing books. Duck's purpose
is to encourage young men to read and discuss social issues
they face as teenagers. More than just a book club, it is
literal, for real.
If
you are looking for a way to jumpstart the reading habits
of young black and Latino male students, then "Playing with
Destiny," is a must read.
